Thursday 25th July
We are very busy creating, designing, researching and evaluating many aspects of the Olympic Games. See what we are up to...
Hamilton & Keito looked at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, where it all began...
I experimented with a new tool called 'HelloSlide' (helloslide.com) to create this presentation:
Joseph is trying to find out if Christchurch could host an Olympic Games. He has found out about the layout of the stadiums, area/space needed and even has the application pack to host an Olympics in our city. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Kane is finding out what made the 2008 Beijing Olympics such an amazing event.
Vedang and Zak and busy finding out about the Olympic symbols here.
Leah, Nathan, Jonty and Thomas have filmed a short movie about the Olympic Value, 'Mind, Body & Character'. Leah has been using iMovie to edit the movie, inserting song clips cut in Garageband, titles and transitions and voiceovers.
Cindy, Sarah and Codie are creating a collage about the Olympic Values. It is a very technical creation with a collage of Usain Bolt supported by other symbols and information.
Look closely and you can see Sarah's enlarged picture of Usain Bolt:
Eres is creating a futuristic event and arena. I remember something about hovercrafts...
Emily and Abi-Rose are creating their own dioramas to illustrate the Olympic Values.
Anna and Emily have an A1 size poster illustrating and describing the Olympic values.
Kate and Lulu and looking at the wonder of 2008 Beijing Olympics and what made it so special.
Jemima and Lydia have written a play about the Olympic Values and have most of the class involved. You will see it on the Ilam School Olympics Day. Here is one scene being rehearsed here.
More to come.... such as Ben and Rory's song...
1 August 2012
An update on our projects:
Emily and Anna have added some more information to their poster about the Olympic Values.
Kate and Lulu and creating their own project boards to display what they found out about the top 10 athletes of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Thomas is creating a quiz game using scratch about the 2012 London Olympics.
Abi-Rose's diorama explaining the Olympic value of RESPECT is almost finished.
Kane has nearly finished his Powerpoint about the Beijing Olympics.
Hami has been designing a futuristic Olympic stadium.
Sarah, Codie, Eileen and Sarah had started collaging their enlarged photo of Usain Bolt. It's looking GREAT.
Thomas, Leah, Jonty and Nathan have finally finished their movie demonstrating the Olympic value of a balance between mind, body and character. It will be uploaded soon.
Lydia and Jemima presented their play about the Olympic values, only to discover they had researched the wrong ones.
And here it is... Ben and Rory's song about the Olympic Values, to the tune of 'Beat It' by Michael Jackson. (I know you're all singing it in your heads now... da na na na na, na na na na.....) See below for the lyrics.
Can’t Beat the Olympic Values
By Ben & Rory
We’re gonna tell you the Olympics aren’t here
They are in London, over there.
The fire’s in the torch, don’t let it disappear
Just hold it
Just hold it
You have to play fairly when you compete
Don’t wanna break the rules, don’t be a cheat!
If you wanna be cool then follow the rules
To win it
But you want to be skilled in
Fair Play
Fair Play
Nobody wants to lose it
Playing it right from when it begins
It doesn’t matter who loses or wins
Fair play x4
A sense of fairness is important
Treat everyone the same way
Respect is in the way you treat everyone the same
Show respect
Show respect
If you keep going to the end
Try your best to succeed even when
The going gets tough
Just do what you can
It’s effort
Show effort
You know that you’ve got it
Winning, Fair Play
Respect, Effort
Show ‘em who’s gonna win it
Look at our medals they are all gold
They are so shiny and nice to hold!
So we won!
We won!
